Everything we do is for the dogs to enjoy- this is why we don't show them or breed from them. Instead we make sure their lives with us are as fun-filled and adventure-packed as possible. In 2009/10 over the New Year, three of us from the wildlife park traveled to the Cairngorm Mountians to 'take the dogs on holiday' and manged to travel around 100 miles unsupported through many different trails and terrains, camping in -18 degrees with basic gear... it was freezing! It was our own fault as we decided to travel light to make it easier for the dogs rather than in comfort.
We also love adventure, the founder of Eagle Heights Wildlife Park, Alan Ames, is a former member of the UK Special Forces and has been a naturalist his whole life, undergoing many adventures from the alps, to the rainforests of West Africa. His son, Jonathan Ames (founder of The Husky Experience) also has a passion for adventure and has been lucky enough to accompany his father on some of his expeditions around the world and has been taught to survive in extreme environments.
The Husky Experience is a working sled-dog kennels based within a wildlife park in Kent, called Eagle Heights. We currently have 26 sled-dogs and have rescued 20 huskies out of our 26- giving them a home for life, doing what huskies do best. We are currently building a new sled-dog and adventure centre within the wildlife park offering all sorts of experiences and sponsorship to help fund the food, vet fees, one member of paid staff and kennel maintenance. We are not a charity so we get no outside funding.
